Buffers & the Mark II FX Loop

Wanted to gather some thoughts / experiences on the use of buffers and the FX loop of the IIC+ According to this article https://mesaboogie.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/226119347-Should-I-use-a-Buffer-in-my-amp-s-effects-loop- published by Mesa, all amps since the IIC+ have had a buffered FX loop, ...

Re: Best Guitar & Pickup combo for a IIc+?

From a non-metal perspective – I play Telecasters 90% of the time, my guitars are all very different in character but the C+ adapts very well to each of them. One of the things I think it does very well in general is bring a great deal of its own character to the tone without stepping on the sound o...

Amp-style Reverb Pedal

I like to play with the reverb on my C+ engaged, but dialling it in tends to roll off a little bit of the high end and I don't like the compromise to the tone. At a recent service the tech told me the amp and circuit were in fine shape, and that it was a common (and not 'fixable') request from playe...

Re: Question on IIC SRG

As I understand it, if a (non-plus) IIC falls under the IIC+ production range there is a chance that the original owner opted for it not to be produced as a C+ at the time of purchase, in which case the chassis would be marked with a dash. That said, 11XXX makes that amp pre-C+ (123XX) production, s...

Re: Mark 2B lead channel really quiet.

+1 on the relay also - faulty relay in my old IIB caused volume drop on the lead channel (channel switching was unaffected, i.e. still noisy :)

Re: Cables, FX, and the IIC+

Sorry no cable experience to pass on. But fwiw your C+ is in one of my head cabs. (I think your the third owner of this head shell) No kidding, what coincidence. Well, it's in London now, and a nice cabinet it is too. Is the Boogie Board on its way out? Doesn't seem to have the same activity as a c...

Got a Thiele in the end but still hit me up if you have an open-back EV-loaded Mark series cab.

Re: 1x12 mini recto cab or thiele

I got an EV loaded Thiele last week – not necessarily my first choice but I needed a cab pronto and that's what was out there. I've been really surprised by how much I like it. It seems to focus the clean sound really nicely. I haven't had a chance to crank it yet, but the extra low end you get vers...

Cables, FX, and the IIC+

Part 1 –  New amp day After spending a couple of pleasant but ultimately suboptimal years with a BFDR + some fancy boutique mid-gain distortion pedals as my main rig, I'm back in the Boogie fold – I finally convinced myself to just spend the cash already and get a IIC+. Here's a picture of my new mi...

Re: Foot Switch Cables?

+1 on that, it can be cheap from a tone perspective, but consistency is vital. Cheap cables have cheap jacks and cheap jacks will end up causing channel weirdness.

Re: MKIIB - retrofit reverb

The preamp boards for the IIC/IIC+ are different for reverb / non-reverb models and I would hazard the same is true for the IIB. Even if Mesa had new boards it would be an expensive upgrade.

It would be a decision financially (and I would say tonally also) to get a reverb unit in the loop.

Check the switching relays. When I had a IIB they made my life miserable.

Re: Changing a Mark III for a Mark IIB?

Mark IIB with something like an xotic BB Preamp is a killer 3-channel amp – that's what unlocked the IIB as a *great* amp for me. I don't play metal, love Boogie leads, love Fender cleans, and love to get the Led out on a crunch channel :) Using a pedal allows you to turn down the preamp gain a litt...

Re: Modern cab for old Mark

Interesting, the half-back / Thiele is a pretty classic combination isn't it. My first guitar teacher, who introduced me to Boogies, ran a Mark IV EV combo with a Thiele 1x12 and that was *the sound* that convinced me that a Boogie was the only sensible choice. I think I got put off the idea a few y...

Modern cab for old Mark

I have a Mark II head being shipped to me at the moment and need to get a cab. My previous Marks have all been combos, although I had a great sounding 1x12 early 90s open back cab a couple of years ago so I'd love to get another. Ideally an 80s/90s EVM12L open back would make itself available but th...
