Re: Are good cables REALLY worth the extra dosh?

Also AC-power cables do improve your tone, if you're using tube amps. Here's the trick: http://www.mercurymagnetics.com/pages/mainframe.htm These are the best $10 you could spend to improve your tone, I'm serious. Eh. Crack open your amp. Look at the wire running from the IEC jack to the power swit...

Re: 7-strings

BTW, anyone have experience with the LTD HEX-7 Nergal signature? The thing that bothers me with 7-strings is that they're usually a superstrat shape and they all look too similar to me. The HEX-7 is the only 7-string I know of. Yes, I have played it a couple of times; one of my buddies has one and ...

Rivera Knucklehead, anyone???

Has anyone here tried or played through a Rivera Knucklehead? What do you think about the amp, compared to the Mesa Rectifiers, for example??

Re: Peavy 6505 or Single Recto?

I would recommend you play with your preamp tubes and look into getting a decent boost pedal. The Recto can be tight with a little effort. True. The sound of Single Rectos can be improved vastly with some minor tweaks; here's part of my recipe: a) Tung-Sol 12AX7 in V1; a Shuguang 12AX7B can also do...

Re: MXR Classic Overdrive

I got the GT-OD mainly because of the sound and the green casing (yeah, I know... childish decision  ), althought there was a Classic Overdrive available at the time, at about the same price. You cannot go wrong with MXR overdrives, they sound really good.

Re: 7-strings

In the realm of 7-string guitars Ibanez is definitely hard to beat. And yes, if you don't want to have a guitar with a neck that feels like a baseball bat, stay away fron Schecters.

Re: Duncan JB Vs. Dimarzio Super Distortion??

There are plenty of guys using a JB for hi-gain especially if your not a fan of the steril EMG's. Will from Lamb of God uses a JB. If that's not prof enough than I don't know what is.. Mmm good to know that; I remember reading somewhere that Dave Mustaine also used to have JBs in his Jacksons in th...

Re: Duncan JB Vs. Dimarzio Super Distortion??

I have the SD II & III in a LP...brutally tone filled and loud when you need them to be. They force you to learn your volume know a great deal more due to their freq. response. Love em! So you have the Super 2 in your axe? In which position, bridge or neck? I'm thinking about putting the Super 2 in...

Re: What's your favorite kind of strings and why?

Wow, I see a lot of love for D'Addarios, I'm probably going to try a set again; it's been 4 years since I've given up on them. I've been using 0.011-0.052 DR's (nice strings) and Dunlop (warmer and punchier).

Re: are you serious?

I will share a funny story. A few weeks ago I was watching Sunday football at a friends house. It was a beer-a-thon type of deal. About 18 people. While waiting for the 9:00 game, we retreated to the basement. I put in a ZZ top cd and my buddy flipped on his EVH half stack, doing a good job at drun...
