Re: New (to me) Stiletto Ace, with a question (Problem?)

damm. that doesn't look right. I really don't think Mesa would let their amp roll out of the assembly line like that. Something happened to that with the previous owner. I'd get it looked at if you have some return/warranty policy with GC or even Mesa. contact them both

Re: Where's the party at?

I have a large post planned with a write up and audio clips. That may provide some good reading and listening. I just figured out how to use audio with a single frame of video. I have audio with the stock Stage I, after BIAS mod, after BIAS mod + KT77 tube set from JJ, and I am going to record some...

Re: Anybody with the Bias mod running 6L6?

I am getting ready to do the bias mod on my Stiletto II and was wondering where 6L6's should be biased at and can you get there with the adjustable bias mod? hey, let us know your findings when u get it installed. I've been wanting to do this for sometime now. Just putting it off and waiting for mo...

Re: JJ E34L. Next best thing to Bias Mod

So I got my bias mod kit and I figured I would take some before readings. With Mesa STR 447 stock tubes the highest reading I got was 19.5 ma. Thats with Bold Power, silicone diodes and 50 watt on channel 2. Spongy knocked that down to about 9. That's pretty darn cold for a tube amp.Just for fun I t...

Re: Another Cab Question

No exp with the Ace and a C90 speaker, but I run my Ace through a 4x12 with Greenback reissues and its GREAT. I recommend! Keep in mind that the Stiletto is a bright amp, but it cuts very well in a band mix. Get a good set of tubes in there, and some dark speakers and you're good to go.

Re: Ace Combo vs. Head w/ Cab

Thanks for the reply, but that totally avoided my question. I'm not looking for advice; I'm asking if there is a difference in sound. Thanks, though. yes! If you buy the combo, you are getting an Ace with a V30 speaker in it, open back configuration. I know you mentioned specially the head + Stille...

Re: More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

hi garbagetruckdriver, Great to hear you also did the bias mod, and liked it. You've also did Isaac's mods. Before I've installed the bias mod, I did Isaac's mods, but when I installed the bias mod, I did undo Isaac's mods. (to start from the original starting point) Isaac's mods are great, and I r...

Re: More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

Hello ! As promised: Yesterday my ACE sounds very good. I think, he never sounded this good. !!!!!!!!!!Also at LOUD volumes.!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSS.. Still it's a bright tone, but not harsh anymore! Even if I keep treble & Prescence low. But I don't care if have to keep my treble and prescence LOW, or...

Re: More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

I've found the papers where I wrote down some measurements with different tubes (SED winged C's. I wanted the measurements with the GT tubes, as described in my previous post, but I cannot do measurements at this time, because at this moment my amp is in the practise room of our band. So, with the ...

Re: More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

I biased my Stiletto Stage 1 with the amp set at 50 watts; Crunch-Mode; Diode Rectification. I set it to 39ma. Noticed no difference on CHannel-2...Crunch or Tite Gain. Setting either channel to 100 watts; very slightly lowers the bias numbers for that channel. Charles hmm interesting, according to...

Re: More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

alie123: That's certainly some interesting results you got with your bias measurements! I'm interested in what tubes you had in the amp with the different measurements you recorded? (Mesa...what color?...after-market?) I did my biasing on the settings (i.e. modes) which I will use. On channel-1; I ...
