Re: Crackle in lower watt settings

Things to check:
- Rectifier Tube (always on in 10Watt mode)
- {Speaker connection (cable, plugs, jacks)}

Good luck!

Re: Weird behavior (blue light) on V8 and V9 after replacing Rectifier Tube.

Hey, If you are not familiar with electrical stuff, bring the amp to a tech - don't risk to hurt yourself or your amp! I think it is not a big thing here... if you always use EL34s, you possibly fried one of your screen resistors (or it got somehow shorted). If you are a tech - check them together w...

Re: Mark V distasteful overdriven buzz

The buzz is some kind of parasitic distorition happening within the preamp. To minimize the buzz... don't forget your "volume 1" control, which is the sum of the 3 rotary eq pots. It is not easy to lower the volume 1 gain without changing the tone too much, as the controls do not feel linear. It is ...

Re: Mark V distasteful overdriven buzz

... I heared sounds like this before - and I think it is at least partly by design.

What is your experience if you bypass the loop on the back of the amp?

(Designwise, the MarkV compared to MarkII...IV suffers the same way then the early Revision 2CH Rectos to the 3CH Rectos.)

Re: 90 watt Head is 10 watt issue all channels

After checking V7 I would look for the rectifier tube as well. it is active in all 3 channels running in 10Watt. Good luck!

Re: Mark V 90w Midboost

Hey...
I could be wrong but isn't that not just a simple pot job?
My guess: you simply have to swap your 10kA against a 100kA.

Re: Roadster + 12AT7 in V6 = Awesome

Hey Bandit! It has been a while since I sold my old 3CH DR. I played the MWDR and liked it much better, because it has a functional clean channel. The old 3CH was a one trick pony for me (orange modern was my thing). Somehow I regret selling it before I gave the EL34s a try - today I think it could ...

Re: Mark V EQ Engage

The EQ settings are controlled via JFETs. A mesa tech told me a view years ago, those JFETs in the EQ area fail sometimes. Good news for you, those JFETS are very cheap and somehow easy to change, shouldn't be expensive to repair the amp. Good luck!

Re: Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

...you really have to try the GZ34 rectifier tube... it makes the 10Watt mode so much bigger - it made it my favorite mode. It's been a while since I started this threat - I usually don't post here anymore since I left the 12at7 path. A view month ago I finally found the key to (hardware-) mod this ...

Hey there,

mine did the same, the last operational amplifier in the chain was broken and had to be replaced... not an easy task. Good luck!

Re: Crunch mode on MK V 25 vs channel 2 Crunch mode Mk V

Preamp-wise, there are no differences except from the mid-pot (which has a far bigger value in the 25, cutting the filter path almost off when maxed). I think the tonal impact of the poweramp (tube type and circuitry) in mesa amps is somewhere in the 50% area. For the 25, the EL84 is just perfect fo...

Re: Stepdown Transformer help

To my ears, PT swap vs. step-down-converter (1000W) was a big shift in tone/feel.

But maybe it is my ears and I'm too audio-hypersensitive. I play in a loud metal-band but start complaining when the bass-drum gets out of tune to my guitar :D

Re: Stepdown Transformer help

Hey there, I wouldn't recommend to use the step-down converter, because besides the voltages comes the change in frequency. The lower 120VAC @ 50Hz will result in lower voltages inside of the amp. The critial point is the heater voltages that come directly from the PT. You might end up with a never ...

Re: What do you prefer? Shred vs od or nothing?

I heard, JP uses shred mode for very low tuned fast (7-string) riffs for a better cut and OD pedals on CH3 for lead lines.

I'm not shure if it is the best choice for lead playing. Circuit wise, it is just an additioinal RC filter (cuts the bass) just before the gain stage.
