Re: Mesa MarkV / Saturation 'mod'

Many users from earlier models complain about ice pick and an overall thin CH3 and many users from newer models hear no problem at all. So many people can't be wrong. It's a shame mesa is silent about revisions/changes. At least we, as (hard paying) customers, know that they don't want to offer help...

Re: Mark V Combo - Speaker Change

Yes you are right, but... To my ears a hard driven single speaker sounds far better then 4 small and cold driven speakers. When I reach speaker saturation level - dancing cone on low note chugging - I turn it down a little bit to be on the save side. The speaker is pointing straight in my face, and ...

Re: Mark V Combo - Speaker Change

..I tried not all but a lot... Mesa V30, EVM12L, Eminence, WGS... in 412 to 112 configuration. For me and my style, the WGS Veteran30 is the best sounding speaker. It is designed for best sound... there are speakers out there that cut better, deliver more power ...... (but they kinda sound like poop...

Re: Help to understand components in Mark V

...the presence controls the amount of negative poweramp feedback entering the preamp section, it dampenes the poweramp. I'm not shure if your DSL is therefore compatible with the mark preamp. In the triaxis, mesa designed a preamp-presence circuit, that does someting to the preamp signal in order t...

Re: Help to understand components in Mark V

You circled reverb-parts as well as significant parts for M8 (Mode 8 = MarkIV)! In short, you will need this parts! (Be aware of the schematic revision - you are using 2009, wich differs to reality in some parts... e.g. CH3 tone stack.) A Mark clone is not an easy task - I once did it with a soldano...

1. & 2. Yes
3. 45W variac is the lowest wattage mode (power consumption wise).

Re: Mark V 90: no bass response?

Thank you so much!

Those mods are not an easy task, tech- and ampwise its a little like an open heart surgery. If you are in doubt about that, you should stick with the 12AT7 mod as it almost does it all.

Cheers

I think I should record another video to show what this amp - as a mod basis - can do.
I finally managed to make this quick and dirty!

Infos in the description.

Re: Mark V 90: no bass response?

I would go with a Jan Philips 12AT7 as well - I know there are at least 2 slightly different revisions of that tube out there, I own both, and both did the trick for me. On my amp all 3 modes in CH3 are equally big in terms of level and bass and CH2's crunch sounds small compared to it. This comes w...

Re: Mark V 90: no bass response?

This sounds typical to me - you should try the saturation mod (12AT7 in v4 and/or v6, as you like). Next to the more elastic overtone feel comes the ability to open up the presence, which will result in a better bass response. The IIC+ mode is given in the 'non-deep' configuration. The IV mode is gi...

Re: Crackle in lower watt settings

Things to check:
- Rectifier Tube (always on in 10Watt mode)
- {Speaker connection (cable, plugs, jacks)}

Good luck!

Re: Weird behavior (blue light) on V8 and V9 after replacing Rectifier Tube.

Hey, If you are not familiar with electrical stuff, bring the amp to a tech - don't risk to hurt yourself or your amp! I think it is not a big thing here... if you always use EL34s, you possibly fried one of your screen resistors (or it got somehow shorted). If you are a tech - check them together w...

Re: Mark V distasteful overdriven buzz

The buzz is some kind of parasitic distorition happening within the preamp. To minimize the buzz... don't forget your "volume 1" control, which is the sum of the 3 rotary eq pots. It is not easy to lower the volume 1 gain without changing the tone too much, as the controls do not feel linear. It is ...

Re: Mark V distasteful overdriven buzz

... I heared sounds like this before - and I think it is at least partly by design.

What is your experience if you bypass the loop on the back of the amp?

(Designwise, the MarkV compared to MarkII...IV suffers the same way then the early Revision 2CH Rectos to the 3CH Rectos.)

Re: 90 watt Head is 10 watt issue all channels

After checking V7 I would look for the rectifier tube as well. it is active in all 3 channels running in 10Watt. Good luck!
