Re: Mark III power tube break up - doesn't seem possible

which kind of guitar do you use? very weak pickups? Maybe you should bring your amp to some good technician...looks as if there is something wrong. On both of my Boogie Mk amps even with a Stratocaster I get easily power amp distortion with volume on 9 (which is just before preamp breakup with a str...

Re: Mark III power tube break up - doesn't seem possible

First thing said: Boogies are not made for powertube distortion. Also 6L6 are beam power tetrodes, which break up later and not so even than EL34 pentodes. It is possible to get breakup, but only at ear splitting volumes. You wont get power tubes to break up, if you back down the preamp volume and t...

Re: Mark llB - difference between early and late models

Interesting post and one I can identify with..Also some very informative information from "CrustyBooger" above... I have a 1981 mark IIB that I love..It's the straight model...No EQ/reverb and 60 watts (Export Transformer) It has a lovely warm sound and the clean channel breaks up lovely and is qui...

Re: Mark llB - difference between early and late models

Very interesting, I never heard that there are different Mk IIB versions. I have a IIB SRGX from 7/6/81 with the RP 9A board, so it seems the change from the 8C to the 9A board must have been in about that time period. As expected, mine has the tone stack boost and treble shift works only in lead mo...

Mk IIB lead channel question

Anyone experienced the same on his Mk IIB?: when I'm on the lead channel, lead master on 10, and put lead drive on zero, I get the clean sound bleeding through. In fact it is quite the same loudness as on the clean channel. When I slowly turn up lead drive, the sound actually gets lower and lower ti...

Re: Mark III bias

Which stripe is yours? try to find the right tubes, that fit. Dont change the bias. In my red stripe simul I run JJ EL34 in the outer sockets which run quite hot. Dont know if they changend the bias setting in the different stripes, only know the green stripes run on pentode operation in class A soc...

Re: Need help IDing this amp.

Man, that really looks sad. Real hack job...looks like a lot of caps and other components are missing. Get some tech with good reputation or send it back to Mesa to restore it. Mk IIBs are great amps, I love my SRGX for it's bold and punchy sound, beautiful & full sounding reverb. Big cleans and a g...

Re: Mark IIC+ owners - preamp/poweramp junction question

the preamp out is just before the EQ. but you can check it quite easy if you move the sliders and listen to the preamp out signal. The Slave output is taken from the speaker out, so you get the exact sound as the speakers get.

Preamp Tubes

hi
Is there anybody, who knows, which kind of tubes this are? They look quite similar, even the getter pill holder is the same, but they have different mesa boogie prints on them. Are they from different time periods?
thanks

Re: Mark IIb master 1 volume level

try that (from the manual): "If your Boogie
should ever lose power or die out, always first run a cable between the two Effects Jacks before
proceeding to test tubes, etc., as such a problem could likely be caused by faulty switch contacts
in the Effects Return Jack."

Re: Studio 22+ factory bias setting

That means the negatative voltage between grid and ground should be -12V. But be careful, it seems that you dont know too much about electronics. The high voltage in tube amps can kill you!!! If you are unsure what to do, you should take the amp to an experienced technician. plus: the right bias vol...
