Re: Annoying bass thump with pick attack - Subway Rocket

The contour mode really ramps up the bass. Different speakers will emphasise this more than others. EQ pedal set to roll off some lows is actually your only option. Or, maybe use the regular OD setting with the EQ in the loop, scoop some mids and don't boost the low end as much. You can get a pretty...

Re: Suggestions for Subway Blues replacement speaker??

Hi! Looking for a suggestion or two about a replacement speaker for a subway blues combo. My MC 90 speaker bit the dust. Looking for something that will cut some of the harsh mid range. I thinking maybe an eminence legend or cannabis rex? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks ! Matt These...

Sounds like you have some bad pots. Get it to a tech.

Re: I recently traded for a Rocket 440

IMO, why buy a Rocket when a Mark is the same price? I passed on a Mark III in like new shape for $500 to buy a Mark IV for $450.00 (traded a Twin I paid $450 for). I've owned quite a few Boogie amps and I only use one at a time. Mark IIC++ or Mark IV or JP2C? "Oh, maybe I'll use the "Rocket' tonig...

Re: I recently traded for a Rocket 440

I have the 44 which is more or less the same but in 1x12 minus the tremolo. Very nice amps but they didn't really make them for long. Still a few out there on S/H market though and can be had for a good price. Been digging mine since 2011.

Re: Subway Blues - Any Cathode Follower Tubes?

I can't see the tube compliment in the Subway Blues user manual. What about the FX loop? I have the Rocket 44 which is related preamp-wise (part of the Subway family). In the Rocket (which has 4x12ax7s) V3 is a cathode follower tube and I have found that JJs get chewed up very quickly in that spot. ...

Re: Mark 1 reissue

For Marks keep the bass low (2-3) and the Treble high (7-9). The Mark 1 circuit has a naturally loose low end.

Re: Mono vs. Stereo

Stereo rigs are cool. They really spread out the sound and can give you a lot of options if you go wet/dry. Stereo setups tend to work best if you're the only guitar player in a small band. Live the sound guy can mic up each rig and split you left and right through the PA. However, if you play with ...

Re: 1998 Rocket 440 4-10, Tell me about Mesa Boogie tubes

Thanks! For now I'm running the original Boogie tubes but eventually will need to get a new set of power tubes and will probably keep the Boogies as back ups. I was aware that the 44 is the same amp as the 440 and have that manual in my amp file folder. Thanks for the tip on the V4 being stressed. ...

Re: 1998 Rocket 440 4-10, Tell me about Mesa Boogie tubes

If you don't want to fork out for Mesa tubes Eurotubes sells JJ sets in the right bias range -- you can even ask whether you want clean or more break up from your tube sets. They sound pretty good to my ear but you might want to try a brighter tube like a Tung Sol in the first gain stage which is ac...

Re: John Sykes tone with a Heartbreaker?

Hey Buster Leggs, Thanks for replying :) I kind of would like to stick to the 6L6's in there ( its a hold over from playing a '76 Twin for so many years) I watched the whole video front to back, and it is a good general starting point for sure. If anyone eles has any other thoughts it's be apprecia...
