Re: Cleans on the new plus

What I found super interesting after doing a shootout between the MKV, the 525+, and the 550+ yesterday is the best crunch sound I could get was out of the 525(granted I might have to spend more time with the Mark). The 550 simply cannot pull out the same crunch sound, it's not half as vintage. I d...

Re: Does the 5:25 sound good at low volume?

Sounds excellent at low volume, IMHO. I really tried to like the 5w setting ...it's good if you want that more "roots rock" gritty tone with more mids/highs; because it lacks bottom end in this setting, even more so at low volumes. I found the full 25w setting sounds bigger and fuller at all volume...

Re: Express 5-25 Plus for Metal/Hardcore?

I own one and with an overdrive you can do some metal, but tons of low end hardcore...no way
I previously owned a Road King II and that's more of the breed (rectifier)

I just tried mine and it doesn't do the same. I'll try again with mine set to your exact channel-wattage settings and let you know though.

Re: Any new Express Plus owners care to share your opinions?

Just brought a new 5:25 + home today (layaway) and I am absolutely in love with it. The 5W sounds are amazing, just what I was looking for, and plenty of stuff to play along with. I played the 5:50 + too, sounds great but I prefer the 84s, and as I get older, 25W is more than enough amp for me and ...

Re: Any new Express Plus owners care to share your opinions?

I've owned my 5:25+ head for 2 months now (I've also owned an Express 5:50 2x12 combo, as well as a Road King II combo). I literally sold my Road King II after purchasing this 5:25. I like the EL84 compression of the 5:25, I think, better than the 5:50 I previously owned prior to the Road King II, a...

It is a shame too, he sounded so much better through the roadking Grohl was using Road Kings for a very long while, although I believe recently has switched to a handwired HiWatt and Vox setup...but if you're looking to capture the sound, along with all the versatility of the parts you mention...Ro...

Grohl was using Road Kings for a very long while, although I believe recently has switched to a handwired HiWatt and Vox setup...but if you're looking to capture the sound, along with all the versatility of the parts you mention...Road King. It's a monsterous amp. A bit outdated, but decent referenc...

Re: Fender amp to compliment an Express 5:50?

Get a Fender Princeton Reverb (RI or not, but the RI's used and mint can be had for about $600...a steal). They'll compliment your Express with their thick and lush tones, along with the vibrato and speed settings....it blends VERY nicely with the 5:50. I previously owned a 5:50 combo 212 and curren...

Re: Thinking of buying a 5:25 plus or 5;50 plus...help!

I just took delivery of my 5:25 plus head today. I have it running through a Recto 2x12 cab and it is LOUD. It will certainly handle even a larger-than-small gig. With its 5, 15 and 25 watt modes, per channel, it's an awesome at-home amp too. I previously owned a 5:50 2x12 combo which I sold to purc...

Re: Road King 11 owners question

Hey there. I've got the same amp and love the damn thing. As for the channel volume vs. master volume usage... Although as you know, either is doable, but I DO find that unless the individual channel volumes are dialed in at least 10 o'clock on the dial...it loses its thickness at volume that's grea...

Re: Roadster anything new over Lonestar Classic +Mini Rectifier?

My Roadster didn't sound all that hot with all JJ preamp tubes in it. A little too dark/dull. Replacing the V1 with a TungSol woke the thing right up... to the point where I was surprised by the difference. In fairness, it is still a darker sounding Recto but I can make it as bright as my old 2 cha...

Re: why not a roadster?

Thanks for your input. The more I hear good things, the more I think it's the right choice. I did read that some users say that it doesn't nail any one sound, but does a great job at getting very close to all of them. The people who say stuff like that are usually the guys that complain that a 100w...
