Re: Wanting info

Have you pulled the chassis to look at the internals? The date of manufacture and other information may be written inside. That should be a Rev C from what I can tell. Here's a listing from one that sold: https://reverb.com/item/12844740-pre-500-rev-c-mesa-boogie-dual-rectifier-triple-rec-prototype-...

Re: 2x12 Recto cabinet with V30s rated 140W?

I believe for a while the Vintage 30's that Mesa used were rated at 70W, not 60W, which is why the cabs are rated at 140.

New Fillmore 100 Head and Combo

Well, looks like the Fillmore 50 and 25 have been popular enough for Mesa to put out a 100 watt version, in both head and combo versions. Still pretty minimalist in features, when compared to other Mesa amps. Has a Full/Half/Low power switch for all 4 6L6 tubes, 2 6L6 tubes, or 2 in triode mode. Not...

Re: Mesa Dual Rec Roadster Head- Lost Channel 1/2 AGAIN

I would definitely mess with the effects loop send level, and see if the pot may need cleaning. Also it's possible that the effects loop jacks are dirty, and those may need cleaning as well. Definitely replace the tube responsible for the effects loop, which I think is V5? It's also possible that th...

Re: Mesa Dual Rec Roadster Head- Lost Channel 1/2 AGAIN

From the link in my first post (Mesa TSB) ”For the past few years, Mesa has been using two types of 12AX7 tubes: ones originating in Russia (Sovtek EH), and ones originating in China. The Russian (Sovtek) tube is NOT reliable as a cathode follower. Of the tubes we are using today (March 2008), ONLY...

Re: Mesa Dual Rec Roadster Head- Lost Channel 1/2 AGAIN

The Russian 1 does not have the spiral filament, so they are usually fine in Cathode follower positions. The Russian 2 tubes were either EHX or Sovtek LPS tubes, and can torch in the Cathode follower positions. Any of the Slovakian or Chinese tubes should work fine in those slots. Also a great place...

Re: V1 tube ridicule

Is there any reason why it has that ridiculously long tube shield? That's the same one used in the Roadster, and it looks equally ridiculous there.

Re: Mesa Tremoverb Don't Cut Through Mix

What are your mids set at? Are you running spongy or bold, and do you have the tube rectifiers engaged? Also, make sure that you have the effects loop "send" control set pointing straight up, which is unity gain. If you have it lowered, that lowers your overall output level maximum, as it is always ...

Re: Stiletto ACE fx loop

Do you have the output knob turned down? It's the bottom right knob on the front. The knob on back next to the loop is send level. The output knob on front is return level. Noon on both is unity gain. I thought the loop on mine was broken when I first got it cause Output was turned down. I had this...

Re: Stiletto Ace and Deuce , how useable is the volume for smaller gigs??

With the Spongy variac and tube rectifiers, you can definitely get some great sounds for smaller gigs. ALSO, when the effects loop is not bypassed, you can actually use the Send control as a kind of "second" master volume, as it is always in the circuit. So you can get a bunch more preamp tube satur...

Re: Best Speakers For Stiletto Ace

The recto is a totally different amp. I found that with bass all the way up, treble at 10:00 and presence between 10:00 and 1:00 the Ace is not tto scream-y. Yeah, I did find some sounds I liked that way, but I'd like to not have to dime the bass to get a good sound. I think having a different spea...

Re: Best Speakers For Stiletto Ace

It could also be the huge cabinet it is in, as the 1x12 combo is the same size as the 2x12 combo. Everything just gets covered by those high mids though. I really like the vintage 30s in my Tremoverb, but not in the Stiletto. The Scumback 65 Watt J75-LD should be here Wednesday, so then I can do som...

Re: TremOVerb Combo Speakers: Vin30 + C 90

Well, after playing both, I decided to just keep the speakers they way they are. I get great sounds out of both. I also was talking to some speaker oriented people, and they said that mixing speakers with different sized dust caps can make it hard to EQ the amp, as the dust cap really affects the hi...

Re: Tremoverb aluminum tube shield/bar

You can probably get the right U-channel off of amazon.

I do NOT know why people always seem to take these off the amp, and not put them back. I needed to get one for my DC-5 as well. You can get them from Mesa usually.
