Re: Thinking of sending my 2 channel Recto to mesa... Though

As far as the output transformer being a huge part of the factor for that pre500 tone.. that seems to be more of a rumor than anything. No rumor. Actually, the popular misconception seems to be that the different transformer plays no part. But when you look at them, the circuit changes from C -> D ...

Almost. There were some random transitional oddities in the early G units, but those are very rare. Most of them are what you expect. (Unless of course they have been modded afterwards.)

Re: 1993 Mesa Rev F. Triple Rec.

I've said it before and I'm saying it again... that black face/chrome chassis combination is killer, the Recto visual to have. Nothing screams "I'm an old-school vintage Recto" as loudly as that on a 2-channel Rec. Except maybe for chrome face/chrome chassis, that is. 8) (I do have a Rev C Dual but ...

Re: Thinking of sending my 2 channel Recto to mesa... Though

I don't know if they do such conversions. I somehow doubt it. The thread on this board tells you pretty much everything you need to know about reverting your 2-channel amp to rev C specs. It's not something you should try yourself if you have no prior amp modding experience - but it's no rocket scie...

Re: Help? Versions of my two triple rectos?

Since you obviously know your way around amp circuits, it fastest and easiest way to find out would be to look at the circuit board. 2-channel rects typically have their revision code printed on the circuit board near the big blue caps, and I believe 3-channel models also have codes printed on the b...

Re: Confused about the FX Loop on the MKV...

I play at very low volumes in the spare bedroom... Impossible at bedroom levels with the effect in the loop. There's your problem. This was already said in the thread you linked. Your Mark V was not designed to be a bedroom amp. Even a 10W tube amp can be loud. Skimp on the volume, and you're bound...

Re: Nomad sub forum?

Just curious why their is no nomad sub forum? 1) Volume of posts. One thread/month hardly counts as high volume. 2) Given that the amp has been out of production for years (and never was a huge seller to begin with), it is unlikely that we will be seeing a surge of new Nomad users and greatly incre...

Re: Roadster - out of production

IMHO, the biggest advantage a Roadster has over a Road King is the weight . Every time I grab my RKII head, I just don't believe how heavy it is. Pretty much ideal for one-arm bent over rows, though, if only it weren't so big...Glad I didn't get a 2x12 combo. Progressive Linkage is (for me) the best...

IIRC, Iommi was using Mark IIB...Coli. He liked the sound but ultimately found it way too loud.

But then, Iommi could play a Pignose and still sound like himself.

Re: Which big recto sounds like my Mini Rec?

I think it's quite a myth that Rev G is darker than Rev F in general, or more loose for that matter. If anything, a lot of my former G's were brighter than my F's, especially the later 90's models I've had. Totally agree on the looseness part; to my ears, an F sounds just as loose as a G. However, ...

Re: from mark iv to road king 2

Two points from a RKII owner... Channel switch popping: yes, sometimes you get those pops even after the 'tap dance'. Especially when you're using EL34s on one channel and 6L6s on the other. This is obviously different from a Roadster since you cannot do that on a Roadster. I know some players hit t...

Re: Mark V combo "farty" distortions.

What he said. The above post contains a lot of helpful information to get you started. Secondly, I haven't played an ES335 through a MkV but I would expect that their naturally more resonant and boomier voice (compared to solid guitars) would require some cautious and conservative dialing or the res...

Re: Recto Mods

All these sort of things put together still has me thinking the Rectos are meant to emulate a germanium fuzz into a JTM 45, ala Cream (Pushed, Vintage), crossed with parts of the first couple of Led Zeppelin albums (Raw, Blues, Modern), with more gain, and able to do it without (as much) hearing lo...

Re: How would you rate the cleans on the mark v?

Are they mid scooped like a fender amp or more mid rangey?Fat mode definitely has a mid scoop to my ears.Im curious as Im finding the cleans quiet brittle and lacking body lately, and especially after comparing it to a few other amps.It kind of shocked me actually.I do remember the cleans lacked som...

Re: Which big recto sounds like my Mini Rec?

Take it cool - nobody said the Mini didn't sound like a Recto. It just sounds like a little different kind of Recto. 8) You asked which big Recto sounded the same, and none does. As for the revisions, the serial number will give you a good idea. But the only sure way to know the revision of a 2-chan...
