Re: Mark III to Mark II mod

That’s great to hear that you’re happy with your results! I’m not sure if I could add anything to this thread, but I own a Mark III+ Coliseum that shares the same transformers with the Mark IIC+ Coliseums, but it’s a no-stripe (which came out just before the black dots). As far the sound goes, it’s ...

Re: Need advice: 3+ mod for my Coliseum?

As far as prices go for them, I've always bought my Coliseums at the same going rate as the normal Mark IIIs. Even as rare as they are, they are a somewhat limited application. At most shows, you can't get them up to full roar without hearing a bunch of 4 letter words from the soundman, and with th...

Re: Need advice: 3+ mod for my Coliseum?

I like mine. One of my Colis had the "C+ mod" done to it before I owned it (apparently by Mike B), and while it's a different flavor than the other Coliseum, it can get in the same ballpark with the Presence raised up. For example, if the presence is on 4 on the standard Coliseum, the presence needs...

Re: MARK III SERIAL NUMBERS

The serial number is stamped into the plate on the back of the chassis. How do I check for triode wiring? Thanks, Brad The serial number certainly strays into the blue territory. Is it stamped into the chassis or a sticker? There are so many examples of "exceptions" to the S/N rules. Price-wise, th...

Re: Mark III Black Stripe Gain Mods

I'm pretty sure I saved the threads, so I'll post them up if I can locate them. It's very possible I could be mistaken, but I thought this was traded in and then you picked up a Suhr... I've never had a Suhr either. Maybe someone is masquerading as me...and has a wicked amp collection. Lucky duck! ...

Re: Mark III Black Stripe Gain Mods

Even a No Stripe Coliseum (that used to belong to chipaudette, and had the III+ mod) can't compete with a Blue Stripe Coliseum's gain. Man, I wish had been an owner of a No-Stripe Coliseum...but that wasn't me. While I knew that a Coliseum's power could cause earthquakes in near-by continents, I di...

Re: Mark III Black Stripe Gain Mods

Meaning in comparison to the blue revision this one has LESS gain. Having found a user submitted schematic and reading the higher plate voltages on those versions - It makes a lot of sense now WHY my amp has less gain. Just compare the original schematic with the blue/red stripes listed on here and...

Re: Mark III Black Stripe Gain Mods

I'd also have to say that the lack of gain is most likely due to a preamp tube in V1, or maybe even V3...but most likely V1. If I compare my Blue Stripes to my No Stripe III+, the Blue Stripe definitely has more gain, but I would never describe the III+ as needing more gain, so I would guess that it...

Re: To tighten

Since I'm a recovering smart ass, I would say...huh? The Mark series are one of the tightest amps available. If you need to tighten up a Mark, there's something screwy going on. As mentioned above, a GEQ will help. Also make sure the bass is never run past 3 for any style you play. I don't like the ...

Blue stripe...possibly green stripe. Take a picture of the guts...particularly the power tube sockets so that we can see if it's wired in triode (blue) or pentode (green)...

Re: Have you compared Mark 3 Colisseum to Mark 3 Simul ?

I have a Blue Stripe Coliseum and a "100 watt" Blue Stripe, and with the same settings, I don't hear any difference between the brightness of treble response. What I do notice is that the Coliseum has a ton more balls that the normal Blue Stripe. The most noticeable qualities of the Coliseum is that...

Re: Mark iii 300 series loaded blue stripe value?

I honestly can't put a price on letting either of mine go, but a few years ago, the price had jumped quite a bit. I bought both of mine at a steal, and nowadays, I see the advertised at $3k and even up to $4k, but that's most likely a dude that doesn't really want to sell it -- he's being forced to ...

Re: What's the going price for a Mark III Blue Stripe head?

Luckily, the Blue Stripes are one of the more desirable stripes in the Mark III lineage, but in today's market, it depends on how loaded the AMP is. If the amp has GEQ, it would be listed for anything between $900 to $1,500, but would SELL for around $1,000 to $1,200. Do you have any pics of the har...
