Re: Is Bias Mod Hype?

+1 for spending more time playing / practising instead of changing tubes, speakers, and so on. But my ACE improved a lot with the bias mod, and I like to experiment with it getting the best out of my amp. I can use any brand of EL34 tubes. For this reason my ACE sound fabulous. Indeed watch out, you...

Re: stiletto ace 2x12 tube question

Tons of info on this forum. I have my stiletto modified for setting the bias. Have used SED =c= power tubes. (=great and very reliable) Has done many many hours and gigs Also have used in the past EL34LS - not my cup of tea. Offcourse depending on the style you like have a duet of TUNGSOL el34b. (no...

Re: Mesa TA-15 tube replacement

Thanks for your replies! Also changed the preamp tubes. V1+V2 are Tung-sol, V3 JJ, and V4 balanced LPS. I must say, I do like the sound of it. But that's also personal taste. I think the Tung-sols give a clear inyourface sound with enough highs. Maybe the JJs are also a good or even better option be...

Mesa TA-15 tube replacement

I think it's time to change the tubes of my Mesa TA-15. Still running the stock tubes. I'm planning to replace the complete set. My experience with my Mesa Stiletto amp is that I got much better results replacing the tubes with other brand tubes than Mesa. (running Tung-sol and JJ tubes, mixed in pr...

Re: Ace 1-12 combo, GEQ in loop.

Indeed, a GE7 will do that if dialed in properly. I did have it, but havent used it much. Watch out messing the freq's too much because you will get into the bass-players freq area :-) Yes: you can tweak the amp a hell lot more this way, but use it right. It was really nothing for me (but that's ver...

Re: JJ E34L. Next best thing to Bias Mod

I can recommend the bias kit.
Sound quality improved much because without it, the tubes are stock biassed way too cold. I can put in any el34 tube brand in my ACE.

grz!

Re: Another Cab Question

Thanks man, I think I also must have the recto 2x12 cab. This would be great. For some smaller gigs I do not have enough headroom to gig with my 1x12 only, so this would complement perfect with the extra 2x12 recto cab. I will have a look for a used one, .. A few days ago I saw Andy Timmons performi...

Re: Another Cab Question

hi rocksalt7, I read you have 2x12 rectifier cab under your 1x12 ACE. I'm also planning to buy one for my 1x12 ACE.. Mesa 2x12 cab is expensive, but I hope it's worth the money. When you added this cab, you really hear much difference? Are you hooking up the cab and also the internal speaker to the ...

Re: Tone shaping: I could use some serious help

I agree, Dialing in this amp can be very hard is some situations. Try different settings, keep dialing and know your amp so it has no secrets for you.. Amp resonds very different on different guitars, pickups etc. When not dialed in correctly, the amp can get very harsh. I've installed the bias mod....

Re: More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

hi, I do like all modes in channel one. Still experimenting with the different modes, and the settings I use depends on my mood.. I do use the fatclean mode with diode setting sometimes. No problem!! No redplating tubes or something. I know in clean mode with diode setting, it is biassed to high, .....

Re: More discoveries with the Mansfield bias mod.

hi garbagetruckdriver, Great to hear you also did the bias mod, and liked it. You've also did Isaac's mods. Before I've installed the bias mod, I did Isaac's mods, but when I installed the bias mod, I did undo Isaac's mods. (to start from the original starting point) Isaac's mods are great, and I re...
