    Bogner Ectasy

I've had an XTC 101b (the EL34 version) since Feb 08, and full featured is a good way to describe it. I'm still learning new ways to to set it up for different tones. Build quality is excellent, too. No way to know what was wrong with the one you saw at GC, but I've never had a problem with any...

    Guilty pleasure Mesa users?

No wonder it seemed as if I'd heard "Bad Girlfriend" a long time ago. I KNEW I'd heard that riff before (or damned close to it), just couldn't place it.

Any notable new tube amps (not Mesa) from NAMM 2009?

Diezel Schmidt, 15 or 30 watt class A.

    Which amp would you buy...

Yeah, the lack of import tariffs within the EU will certainly help u with the Herbert's price tag. As far as compression, channel 3, the lead channel, can get fairly compressed as you increase the gain past around 1 or 2 o'clock. With the gain dimed, its pretty compressed, but other than that, I...

    Which amp would you buy...

I currently own a Herbert, and owned an Uberschall rev. for about a year (sold it in Dec. 08). Haven't tried the VHT. I play primarily metal-all types from older British stuff through modern, excluding maybe NuMetal-and hard rock, but have been getting more into lower gain and bluesy stuff...

A few questions, mostly about Tubes

To be safe, you may wanna call Mesa & ask about pulling tubes in a Triple. I've never owned a Triple, but have seen some posts on the forum saying its ok to pull tubes, and others saying its not ok. Same w/rectifier tubes-some say you have to pull one, some say you don't. The one thing I do...

    Tube Pulling/Watt Lowering Question.

Keep in mind it won't be much quieter at 50watts vs 100watts, due to the non-linear ratio of dB to watts. It's something like 6dB quieter, I think, so it won't take you to output tube saturation bliss at low volume levels-I've tried it. Could be wrong on that number, though. You will lose some...

MXR 10 band in loop of DR.

Are you referring to the frequency sliders or the volume and gain sliders? VERY subjective, as far as the freq settings, and what type sound you are trying to get, i.e, boosted mids, scooped mids, or whatever. Also, the same settings are gonna work differently with different amps. The owner's...

    I miss my Mesa's :(

+1. I bought a Ecstasy 101b in January. Very versatile, kind of a jack-of-all-trades, while also being a master-of-all (as it should be at $3300+), especially the hot-rodded Marshall vibe. The only thing I've found it is slightly lacking in is really brutal modern metal, ala the Uberschall, but...

Warehouse Verteran 30's and a dual rec

I haven't personally tried one yet, but from what I understand, Diezel's front loaded cab has a tighter, more focused, more 'in your face' sound than their rear loaded cab. Both are v30 loaded 4x12s. Dunno what other factors (if any) contribute to the difference.

    Was I expecting too much?

In front. You want the OD to drive the preamp a little (or a lot) harder.

    1x12 amp.....Bogner? Diezel?

Between the Shiva and Einstein, the Einstein would probably suit you better based on the styles of music you play. I haven't spent a lot of time with either, but IMO, the Einstein is better suited for hard rock and metal than the Shiva.

How many valves should be lit up in my dual rec?

I assume you meant NO reason to suspect a couple have blown? All 11 tubes in a DR (5 preamp, 4 output, & 2 rectifier) should glow to some extent, but like domct203 said, it can be harder to tell with the rectifier tubes. I'm not near my DR right now, but IIRC, the preamp tubes are covered, so...

    Best Amp I Ever........

I can only speak as to the Herbert, but they have every bit as much gain as the rectos, probably more, and the entire gain range is useable. Excellent cleans as well. A much tighter, crushing low end, IMHO (though not as tight as the VH4). Very distinctive tone with the Diezels. Of course, they...
