    Roadster ch3 & ch4

Aside from the presence pot, ch4 also removes all of the negative feedback from the power stage, which gives the amp a looser, more out-of-control feel. That's probably what you're noticing. I like it well enough for grunge covers and garage-band stuff, but I tend to stay on ch3 for most...

Okay to play acoustic guitar through my LSS?

This is an active pickup with a preamp, so you may find that the signal is a little on the hot side and causes your LSS to break up a little more easily than with passive pickups, but it won't damage anything. It may or may not sound very good, though.

How much gain is the LSC capable of?

Yes, but not quietly. The key to that sound is 6L6 tubes breaking up. Set it to 100 watts (50 or 10 won't have enough grunt), push your output and master so that happens on a moderate gain setting, maybe add a small amount of drive for a bit of extra crunch.

    Compressor After Overdrive

Interesting, I've always used mine this way. It actually never occurred to me to put a compressor in front of an overdrive. Now I have to try it, just to see what the difference is.

    Lonestar Classic Maple

It would probably be a little brighter, but not too much different otherwise.

Four (4) Lonestar series Geek-out Questions

    1) When the switch is set to 'Bright', a 250pF bypass cap is added to the front end of the reverb circuit to allow more of the highs through. 2) 'Thick' and 'Thicker' add a 250pF or 500pF bypass cap, respectively, to the CH2 tone stack. The exact frequencies which are boosted depend on the...

    LSC Tube Recommendations

Finally got it where I want it -- 12AX7 back in the first position, channel 1 gain at 10:00, treble at 10:00, mids off, bass at 10:00, presence at 3:00. I was running the bass too high, and extra midrange was being dumped in. Thanks for your help, everyone!

    LSC Tube Recommendations

I tried a new EH 12AY7 and an old JAN/Philips 5751 in V1 last night. I didn't really like the 5751, it added midrange if anything. The 12AY7 sounded great, though. Nice, balanced midrange. The amp isn't very loud anymore, and doesn't break up at all, even the second channel stays clean with...

Single Rectifier and Sonic Maximizer advice...please?

I have a BBE kicking around that I still use in my PA occasionally. I've tried it with various guitar amps and concluded that it doesn't do much for a Mesa, as they are generally very forward-playing amps to begin with. It sounded really nice in the loop of a Peavey Classic 30, fwiw.

Any way to reduce noise floor on an F-50 combo?

Every JJ tube I've ever had was pretty noisy. I could see it being a problem in something as high gain as an F-50. A gate in the FX loop might help.

    LSC Tube Recommendations

I've noticed the same thing, that the Webers do help with the midrange. I experimented for a while yesterday, and found that I could dial some more of it out by running the presence at 3:00 or so, and backing the treble off to 11:00. I did try a Tung-Sol in V1, but I couldn't hear a lot of...

I have a couple of Tung-Sol 12AX7s hanging around; I'll have to try this. Thanks!

    LSC Tube Recommendations

Thanks for the reply! :) This is actually an upper-midrange sort of thing that occurs more in the clean channel than in the second channel, which doesn't have the voicing option. Channel 2 on this amp is actually easier to dial in, I've found. I actually quite like the thick setting, it has a...

    LSC Tube Recommendations

Hi all, I've had my LSC (2x12 combo) for almost a year, and the stock tubes are starting to develop some crackling noises here and there, so it's getting to be time to retube. The amp tends to have a bit too much upper midrange that can't be dialed out, as the tone stack is Fender style, with...

    Subway Rocket eating V-1 tubes

It is possible that you just got a couple of bad tubes in a row. That said, it's also possible that one of the plate resistors or the cathode bias resistor for that tube have drifted over time, and the tube is being run too hot and burning out fast. Does the amp sound different?
