Mark V through 2x12 recto vs cab clone

I'm surprised how much I like the headphones out of the cab clone. There are a lot of hot takes on the internet about it, but I found the tone very useable. I'm using a decent pair of headphones (Status Audio Open Back headphones). I find the open headphones don't produce an overwhelming amount...

    A little Wah Pedal Please

I've got a Morley Mini Maverick Wah and a Fulltone Wah Full. Both are sweet and would recommend. The Fulltone is a fixed wah with an expression pedal jack. The Morley turns on and off by itself which is cool for playing live.

Mark V through 2x12 recto vs cab clone

Thanks for the reply. I am able to run the channel master and the overall output volume higher using the Cab Clone than the Recto cabinet. Maybe that's significantly impacting the overall headroom. I've tried running the channels on Variac power in 10w modes through the Recto and it's still...

Mark V through 2x12 recto vs cab clone

Hi all - I've got a Mark V 90 head that I play through a 2x12 vertical recto cab with Vintage 30s and then the Cab clone for headphone jams late at night. I've noticed there are some major differences, not just in tone (expected), but most notably in how the gain knob interacts. For example...

Mark V combo or head +1x12 (Got mine!)

Congrats on taking the plunge - did you go head or combo? I've got a mark v head. I have a vertical 2x12 recto cab and a 1x12 open back cab. No matter how you slice the mark v, it's going to be heavy. At 40 some odd pounds, the head weighs about as much as some 1x12 combos. The 2x12 is 75 ish...

Boogie Magic - Live vs Recorded

Totally agree. I'll add that digital amps have the opposite effect: they sound great recorded but crappy in person. I usually record guitar with a Fender Mustang for convenience sake, but roll out the Mark V for gigs and practice.

    Took the Mark V Plunge

Congrats on taking the plunge on the Mark V. I remember when I made the decision. It's difficult to put down that much money on an amp at once, but I took stock of all the amps I had and they easily met or exceeded the cost of the Mk V, so it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I've...

New/Used Mark V Sound from rear. Not the fan.

I would just look at the power tubes while in standby to make sure none of them are going crazy and maybe check the channels in various different wattage settings and rectifier source. If everything is functioning normally, then my guess is it's probably a normal noise. But i'm certainly no amp...

Mark I tone out of channel 3 ?

This probably won't be particularly helpful, but you could instead try to find a comparable Crunch tone on channel 3 and use the Mark 1 mode in channel 2. I've had good luck using the Mark 2 mode for my rhythm crunchy tones. Either way, I'd probably look to the Mark IV mode since is has a strong...

Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

I find the Mark V versatile enough where I can get humbuckers to sound as clear and pristine as single coils, but I can't really get single coils to thicken up like humbuckers. So I typically use humbuckers, particularly on stage. I also have a G&L SC-2 with jumbo MFD pickups which are like...
