Difference: Vintage/Modern on 3 Channel Triple vs 2Chan

Thanks for the info. Might try lower gain and use a boost on vintage then. I think I need to do the series loop mod to it as the loop still introduces some phase cancellation. My 2 chan has the series mod and it made a big difference when using delays.

Difference: Vintage/Modern on 3 Channel Triple vs 2Chan

Hey I picked up another Recto to accompany my Rev G dual. Its a 3 Channel Triple rec (non-multi watt). I noticed immediately that vintage mode is a lot darker than on the 2 channel. Modern is still very bright and quite similar to the 2 channel, but there seems to be a vast difference between...

I'm not the OP, I posted because his problem sounded identical. Was curious if the OP had a solution.

It's from the speakers. If I remove all preamp tubes the amp is silent. Adding the PI (v5?) reinstates the hum, so I think it's not in the power stage. Swapping different PI tubes doesn't alter the hum so it's not the tube either. As with the OP bold has more hum as does setting the rocker...

Necro bump of this thread. I have the exact problem described by the OP (I used search, what a novelty!). Mine is an old 'G rev' 2 channel. Sounds great apart from the hum. Has anyone found a solution? I assume its quite common.

Why does a Mesa Recto 4x12 sounds better than my V30 2x12?

I've ended up swapping the speakers the 2x12s, the chinese V30s are now in a closed back carvin cab, and one carvin speaker and one G12 (or maybe a GT75?) are in the ported cab. Both sets sounds much better in their new cabs. Probably just a fluke. The V30s didn't work well in the ported cab.

Feedback/oscillation in FX loop 2Ch Dual Recto

I felt certain it was the FX loop driver tube..is there one? It turns out the feedback was not from the recto but from the nova system, because I had maxed the input gain to compensate. Never had this before, but I think the send from the recto was low, or maybe it was a dodgy lead. All ok...

And they don't work for free

Feedback/oscillation in FX loop 2Ch Dual Recto

When I got the amp a few weeks ago I did a basic clean: Deoxit on all the pots and tube socket pins. I'm familiar with what a bad preamp tube sounds like, it doesn't sound like that to me, but this is the first mesa I've had so its all new in that regard. I've also changed all the power tubes...

Feedback/oscillation in FX loop 2Ch Dual Recto

The noise is like tuning a radio, the frequency of the 'feedback' changes are you turn the channel volume. Tried swapping V4 and V5 as you said, but no dice (all are Mesa branded) Next I tried swapping each tube individually with a Chinese 12ax7. No change. To reiterate, if I turn the loop...

Feedback/oscillation in FX loop 2Ch Dual Recto

I don't want to take the chassis out ATM if I can help it, so looking from the back of the amp how are the preamp tubes numbered? I assume V1 is the furthest to the left with the metal shield over it, followed by V1-4 to the right and the one on its own nearest the power tubes is the PI (V5)?

Feedback/oscillation in FX loop 2Ch Dual Recto

Having a bit of an issue with the FX loop on my 2 Channel DR. I noticed today that the signal from the send to my TC Nova system was low. Then when turning up the channel volumes the amp produces a screeching feedback sound but no signal. It starts from around 9 o'clock and then stops just when...

    Chicken Head Knobs on Roadster

Nice idea. I'm sure I've seen pics of a recto with 'peaked' chrome knobs somewhere. The black chicken heads look great to me, especially with the black face plate you have. And perfectly practical. Wondering if glow in the dark paint would work for the knobs.

Can someone explain the channel modes on a 2Ch Dual Rec?

There is so much tonal variation with this amp it hard to keep track. Though there's even more on the latest 3channel ones they look a lot easier to work out. I've just done the series FX loop mod, and surprised how few components are inside given the features.

Can someone explain the channel modes on a 2Ch Dual Rec?

I feel like I've passed some sort of exam. Being not exact clones was throwing me, it makes sense now. I'm sure there was some change in the red channel when orange was set to clean as well? Loving the power amp settings on this thing. Ive got a midi switcher for the recto and a midi looper...
