The other day the Western World came on the radio and right away I loved their tone. I'm not normally a big Pennywise fan, but It sounded great for a punk band. Actually, I would take that tone over most modern metal bands. It was tight and smooth and right away I guessed Boogie. It sounded too...
Metallica
If you're thinking of their older stuff, it was Mark III's and marshalls. The Mark III is very easy to pick out of the mix. It brutally cuts through. Now I think they use Randalls. Not bad sounding amps, but face it, The mark III owns thrash!
Mesa traditional 4x12 with v 30's.
If you have tried the settings I posted, and the ones others posted in your other similar threads, and your tone still sucks...
either A. your amp is in need of repair/maintenance
or B. your definition of a tight metal tone is WAY different then mine.
I would push the volume and lead master pots in. If this kills your gain, turn the lead drive up. That would be way too much bass for me to get a tight metal tone. When I run the pull/deep on the master out(which i always do) I cut the 80hz way down to keep my bass from getting flubby. I find it...
That John Petrucci song awsome. But I though the bass was a little loose/tubby at the intro when he was doing that chunky riff.
Girugamesh probably actually had the best tone.
I'm not a huge tool fan, but I'm pretty sure they use rectos. stop me if i'm wrong...
I think that everytime I hear bad girlfriend. That little lead part is very Cult sounding.
I agree about the new bands sounding the same, I can't tell much of a difference between Hinder, Breaking Benjamin, Three days grace, etc.
