I've always been an Ernie Ball player, usually the purple "power" gauge. For the last 2 years or so, I've been buying their cobalt strings in the same gauge. And continue to be amazing at their brightness, volume and how long they hold these properties.

Is your Effects Loop turned off on the back of the amp? Because that will disengage the Master Volume and Solo circuit leaving you with only the individual channel masters. Can't help you with the popping on stand-by.
