Yes the TA-15 is a bright amp by mesa stardards, but in a band setting where the bass frequencies are already well covered I find TA-15 is voiced perfectly to sit in the mix AND cut through. I agree the top boost channel gets harsh with a tele but this can be fixed by rolling off the guitars...

Most of the time I'm using an open back 1x12 Lonestar cab as this makes for a great light weight gigging package. If I'm feeling extravigant I'll also take along a Mesa Thiele 1x12 and run them both together from the 8 Ohm output.

Driving a higher Ohm speaker won't make the amp work harder the output tubes will actually deliver less current and power to a higher impedence speaker.

I have a first gen TA-15 and have never had a problem. There was aparently a small bias update introduced in later models but this is considered such a minor tweak that it is not worth the mod.

I've been using a US spec MKIV in the UK with a Maplins step down transformer (500W I think) for 10 years wiith no problems.

I use the 1x12 19 and it works great as a grab and go gig package. Sometimes I'll add a 1x12 mesa thiele cab for a bigger low end thump.
