Mk III Red stripe IIC+ conversion, and R2 Volume mod

Mesa Boogie Mark IIIC+ conversion, with R2 Volume mod. Was a red stripe, but I'm not sure if that matters after the IIIC+ mod or not. It's in great shape, in kind of a tan tolex, but It may have been retolexed, I have no idea. 1100.00 is what I'm asking, and I really can't do any trades right...

which sound better simul or 100/60 for Mark IIC+

Depends on what you want to hear. I prefer the Simul, because I like using EL34's in it, or at least having the ability to do so. I think it's also a little warmer and smoother which suits me better, but if you're after aggression the 100/60 might be better?

Will Mesa install a graphic EQ in one of their older amps?

Spending money is fine, but do it wisely. Get a good EQ to put in the loop, or just sell the amp and buy one that has an EQ, you'll probably find you can do that a LOT cheaper than having your amp modded. 450-500 to have it done, shipping both ways, plus any other small things he finds and...

Which has more lows, Marshall JCM 900 or Mark IV?

The 900's weren't low end monsters by any stretch, in fact they're kind of thin sounding compared to most Marshalls and other amps. You've got yours set up pretty well, or your MkIV needs new tube. IMHO.

    R2 - Yay or Nay

I think it sounds like ****. It's hollow souding, flubby, and the gain is unusably bad and grainy. For a mild OD crunch, I'd rather turn the gain down on the lead channel, then use a boost to get it back up for a lead or just put the amp away and get out one of my Marshalls. That may be my...

disillusioned by mark iv and Mesa in general

If you get lucky enough to get a tube that's in the range your amp needs, you won't hear much difference between that and a properly biased amp. But most of the time Mesa's have extremely cold bias, and could sound better if you could bias them. This isn't something RS is ever going to...

Mesa dc-5 vs. Marshall JCM 50 watt

No, one of the JCM 900 models is the MkIII. Later they took out the diodes and added a 4th preamp tube for the gain stage and renamed it the SL-X.

Mesa dc-5 vs. Marshall JCM 50 watt

From what I've read, the DC5 and DC10 are pretty much the same. If you liked the 10 for the tones you're looking for, I'd go for the 5. It's been quite a few years since I had a MkIII but it's pretty much a one trick pony. There's two volumes so you can set it up for a volume boost, but it's...

Mesa dc-5 vs. Marshall JCM 50 watt

Which JCM 900 is it? SL-X? Dual Reverb? MkIII? Which tubes are in it? EL34's or 5881's? Have you played either at all? For the categories you mentioned, Punk would be a toss up between the two amps, but for the other two, I'd still rather have the 900.

Mesa dc-5 vs. Marshall JCM 50 watt

I didn't think the DC5 was very loud for a 50 watter, and the OD is kinda harsh sounding. The clean was awesome as was the reverb, but after owning a 50Cal, DC2, DC3 and DC5 I really don't think the Caliber series is for me. Not saying the original poster wouldn't like it like you guys do...

    Mark II C+ question

Just because they leave the board doesn't mean they don't completely rebuild part of it. Just like they do when they do a C to C+ mod. They also change them to Pentode or triode or whatever it is the MKIIC+ runs that the MkIII doesn't on some stripes. Also, one of the reasons they say the...

Mesa dc-5 vs. Marshall JCM 50 watt

Not much to compare IMHO they're pretty different amps. If you need two channels, You're probably better off with the DC-5. If you're only needing one OD channel, I'd take the Marshall by a mile. That's just me though, and here on a boogie board I'm sure I'm in the minority.

    Mark II C+ question

I'm glad you found your grailtone in the MkIII, and have dialed it in to sound how you like compared to a MkIIC+. Personally, I doubt you'll find many people that will agree with you on coping an exact tone and feel but I doubt that's high on your priority list. As far as the...

    Mark II C+ question

That may be what you hear, but I've got a non simul MkIIC+ and a Simul MkII+C here now, and I sold off the MkIII after I the first one. I'll just agree to disagree whole heartedly. I like MKIII's a lot, in fact I like them better than any of the Mk IV's I've had (I like them too) and I...

    Mark II C+ question

They don't have the same preamp. While the C+ did use different transformers in several different models, they were all very similar in size and power. The MkIII used much different transformers than any of the MkIIC+ did and most of them are wired differently. They're different amps in both...
